Architecture
Palazzo Gagliardo is a perfect testimonial for
representing XVIth century Sicily, a period
when this region entered a period of mannerism
transitionning from a solidly gothic environment.
While further investigation is required to determine
the origins of internal sections of the building,
the general structure and the civic positions of the
Southern and Western walls, with their massive
bush-hammered cornerstones, can be dated back to the
early-1500s. These and the local sandstone portico,
are decorated with valuable carvings which are
complete and perfectly preserved from the original
construction.
